Bergen County Sheriff's Youth Leadership Academy

Hi everyone, my name is Danyel Kenis and I am currently a junior at Leonia High School. I have lived in Leonia for the entirety of my life so far. For my school, I am a member of the varsity soccer team as well as the baseball team. I also enjoy art, computers, and professional sports. The reason I have joined this academy is because I believe that it will provide me the tools necessary to make a positive difference in the world in the future. Through the abilities which I am sure to acquire as a cadet in this program, I, alongside all others who participate, will be able to grasp countless opportunities that will arise to help change the world for the better. I hope to grow as a man, as a person, and I hope to be part of a promising group of young people with the same aspirations as myself. I also am very excited about learning as much as I can about Law Enforcement in general, I look forwards to working with all of you for the upcoming year. See you all soon.

My name is Nicholas Ghichlian, and I am a senior at Paramus High School. I was born in the Bronx, and I moved to Paramus in kindergarten. As a hobby, I enjoy playing sports, including soccer as part of my school's team. I am also a part of my school's winter and spring Track and Field team. I am a part of this Academy because after attending the Bergen County Youth Police Academy during this last summer, I had a memorable experience as I met new people, and explored the various aspects of the community. I enjoyed looking into the court system, the fire department, and the different units of the police. I never gained such an insight, and I am honored to have been given the opportunity. Using the discipline and training learned through the Youth Police Academy, I feel transformed in my abilities. Although some parts of the Youth Police Academy were difficult, I became inspired to take on the challenge, and continue working as a team. I look forward to continuing such experiences, and meeting others in this Academy.

How do we renew for the program next year? Do we have to write a check out and if so who to make it out and how much? thanks.

Good morning everyone. I hope we all are enjoying our summer vacations. I wanted to touch base on a couple of topics.
1st I regrettably have to announce that we will not be doing the inflatable obstacle course race this year, this is due to a lack in cadet participation. We only have five cadets interested in running. If you have sent me a check, I will be voiding it and shredding it. The checks will not be cashed. If you gave me cash I will have it for you the next time I see you.
2nd, if you would like to order any apparel please complete a form and mail me it with a check by Aug-15. (160 South River Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601) Attn to: Sgt. James Lapp. Please in the notes let me know if you want your name on the back of the T-shirts. (T-shirts only). You will find the apparel form attached to this posting. Also ask friends and family if they would like to purchase anything.
3rd, let your friends know about the program, see if we can get some more people to join. We already have ten new recruits let’s get that number to twenty.
4th and final thing, GO ENJOY YOUR SUMMER! Stay active, stay healthy, and stay happy. Summer will be over before you know it and we will be back at it. Please stay in touch, check in periodically, and as always feel free to contact me for whatever the reason may be. Our swearing in ceremony is most likely going to be held on September 18th, or 26th.

Our trip to the state pen should be fun tomorrow I can't wait. I also want to thank Sgt Lapp and Ofc. Nazare for the time they spend training us this year I am looking forward to coming back to the Sheriff's dept again in the Fall

I will not be able to make the meeting tomorrow morning I cannot get coverage for work.

In addition to Officer Nazare's instructions, everyone is to wear their Class A uniform on Saturday.

Please be advised that there is NOT a meeting on the 7th. The Eastern State Penitentiary trip to PA on the 18th is the next and final meeting of this year. Hope to see you all there!

Last meeting Sergeant Lapp said that was the last class of the year if you guys don't remember. He also told us that the trip to the Penitentiary trip was moved to Saturday the 18th.
